This plan will be presented and discussed at a big event in Barcelona for the top 200 people of AkzoNobel. &Samhoud developed the worldwide strategy-plan and asked me to visualize their story into a short and high-end teaser.

4SeasonsSpa

For outdoor spa designing and manufacturing company “4SeasonsSpa” i did a 20 second long visual effect shot. The concept was as simple as effective; put the hot tub in a peaceful outdoor environment and let the seasons magically pas by. Aesthetically and technically an interesting job to do!

Working on a new multimedia project

Recently i’ve been asked to art-direct a new multimedia project. This project, called “Waterland”, is an educational project for around 250 primary schools located along the large rivers of the Netherlands. It is intended to educate children (aged 10 – 12 years) about the way people and water have lived together in this area for hundreds of years, and still do.

The project consists of a lot of printed material, a website and an introduction movie. So I’ve built a team of various freelancers to accomplish this multimedia job, and will focus myself mainly on the movie and overall design.

So a lot of work to do! Time to move myself into the shoes of a 10 years old little boy :)

Update: Past weeks i’ve worked very hard to get some cool (and clear) renders for the illustrated parts of the movie, see below. Also, i’ve booked Tv-presenter “Marcel Kuijer” to do the storytelling for green screen (first production in my own new greenscreen-studio)!

4SeasonsSpa Breakdown

For the 4SeasonsSpa FX shot i did, i’ve made a little breakdown movie. As you can see I ended up rebuilding the whole scene in CG. Putting a time-lapse forest on the background and color corrected the whole picture over time. Every season has it’s own color and mood, and is enriched with some details like falling leaves or the frozen pool.

For the background forest, i used 9 (already very good) pictures from the time-lapse series of Eirik Solheim. And re-matched, color corrected, blended and morphed them together.

Psychedelic weekend

Last weekend, production studio Smokin’ Barrel asked me to help them out with some extremely happy animations. This little job instantly changed my weekend into a nice psychedelic trip of bright colors and happy tunes ;)

The purpose of this viral is to promote the new TV program “Max adventures” by Ola (the ice company), which will be broadcast on Nickelodeon. 3D Characters by Euro RSCG 4D. Compositing by Fube.

This morning i woke up with a couple of hundreds mails in my inbox. Everybody left invitations and positive comments on my work on behance. I was blown away and asked myself how i suddenly could get that much attention… The last mail in the row explained everything:

new website online!

trrrrratatata here it is…. my brand new website. After a few designs i decided to strip it all down and only keep the most essential elements. So here it is, a nice clean place to kick my work in. Finally the beautiful Canon 5d mark II is a part of my equipment!
A few months ago i saw some videofootage shot on this digital photo camera and i immediately knew a was gonna buy this camera some day! Today is that day and a lot of doors are opening to me.

With the capability of shooting full HD in very low light situation using the beautiful photo-lenses and a very big 35mm sensor it’s definitely a winner.

Finally the shallow depth of field filmlook is achievable and euhm yeah you can also make some pictures with it :)

Free underwater footage

I went to Berlin for a few days and shot some footage of underwater dust in a zoo. I thought it will bu usefull someday to give cg scenes a little bit movement and imperfection. Cause of the “let’s make cool things together” attitude in the motion graphic community I decided to build a little give-away package witch you can download here. The video below is a preview/test to see how the footage will work in After effects. I think it works pretty well.

My settings in AE:
1. Footage desaturated
2. Played with levels (clipping the blacks will kill some noise but looses detail)
3. Footage layer to “screen” mode (lighten or overlay will also work)
4. Simple 4 point gradient background

New office!

I recently sign the contract for this beautifull office in the centre of Utrecht. It’s a old school building with in every ward a creative company. After a few weeks of painting and renovation it’s a wonderfull place to be and work. If you’re nearby, don’t hesitate to come in and have some coffee :)

I’ve also planned the realization of a basic (green screen) filming studio in 2010. So stay tuned for even more possibilities in the near future!

Postproduction MTV fillers

Here are some “before and after” pictures of the postproduction process for the MTV shorts i did. The trees that i had to rebuild in the first movie were actually photoshopped pictures i made on the shooting day. Then with some precisely camera tracking and 3d positioning i could complete the picture.

On the filming day of the second movie (stairs) we were a bit in a rush cause of the short amount of daylight time. So the “M” is far from perfect but fortunately the papers offered a lot of track points were i could accurately hang my photoshopped piece of papers on :)

Borderless art

A short promo film about dutch design.
It was challenging to give all the footage i received a single jacket that fits. I thought the clean white style without textures or any materials on it will fit the concept of a product that’s still in production or in design process. At the same time it gave me the oppertunity to model all kind of objects in the background, which visualize the story that’s been told. By order of “Redrum Pictures”.

The & character in their logo symbolises the connection. This logo-animation belongs to a set of idents an bumpers i made for them in cooperation with Redrum pictures.

Radio station Slam!FM launched a online “TV station” called Slam!TV. In cooperation with B.reel-media, we build a package of bumpers to give Slam!tv a visual identity. This is the “grandslam” bumper to announce a big hit of that time.

LORD of the rings, nice making of dvd’s

Maybe some old news here but i recently bought the Lord of the ring triology extended edition (very cheap since they gonna offer blu-ray versions soon). Every single movie has 2 nice dvd’s with extra’s and behind the scene’s. It’s awesome to see how they apply very high tech technics like the software program Massive (for character animations on large battlefields). But also how very low tech solutions works very well (like making a frodo mask and put it on a Lilliputian stand in haha).

Go buy them and check it out!

Typographic experiment where a gracious old font harshly get replaced by modern characters.
I also played with a couple of different soundeffects to give the whole thing a bit more emotion.

TMF Yearmix

Every year (around new years eve) dutch music tv-station “TMF” broadcast a videomix of all the popular music clips of that year. Production and postproduction studio BRM in Utrecht did the videomix and i did, in cooperation with them, the design (read intro and outro).

The video above only shows the intro and outro (since the whole mix has a duration of approx. 60 min.).
